The Olympic Torch Relay

Today was our country's turn to host the Olympic torch relay; a part of the flame's journey through 23 cities in five continents, arriving in Beijing for the 2008 Olympic Games in August. A 130-day, 85,000 mile journey
from Olympia, Greece to China.

The relay was to kick off from Dataran Merdeka at 2.15 pm. The torch would then be passed to the torchbearers, making its way through the streets of Kuala Lumpur, passing several landmarks before ending at the KLCC about 6 pm. This is only the second time Malaysians will get to witness the historic event up close. She last hosted a leg of the torch relay in 1964 when Japan became the first Asian country to host the Olympics.

As Papa Bkworm's office is in the city centre, he managed to record a short video of the run. Since it took 44 years for the torch relay to be hosted here in Malaysia after the first time in 1964, I doubt I will live to see it happen a third time. I'll just have to make do with this instead......

The went through the place where I used to work but sadly I'm no longer working there :P Having said that, some of the runners complained that it was too short :P

Cheers!!! :D

BP,
It is a big thing for the country to be included as part of the relay route. People are both proud and excited. :)

Jomel,
There were supposed to be a total of 80 runners in all. I believe the woman running in the video is Datuk Paduka Sharifah Mazlina who went to the North Pole last year.

Hyelbaine,
Yeah, I used to work in that area too. Would have just looked out of the window from 8th floor ;)

WOW, New Zealand didn't get the Olympic Torch, but wow so much security. Thats cool. I love watching the Olympics.

It was cool. My friend who was taking care of this event thing took many pictures too. As for me, I avoided myself to be in KL that day. Hehe!

Charlotte Rose,
I guess they have to make sure the flame doesn't go out and with all the recent unrest in Tibet, everyone's just being extra careful.

Primrose,
The traffic jams would have been horrendous, eh? Thank God I don't work in the city centre anymore. ;)

That was neat. Thanks for sharing that with us. I love seeing history from the street level. :)

Simple American,
I wish I was there in person but got to make do with this video clip instead. I am sure everyone present was awed by the whole event.
